Outdoor word categories

1. Place words around the garden in places that are easy enough for learners to locate.
2. Present learners with the categories and elicit some examples of each.
3. Put learners into pairs. Make it fair! Strong and older learners should be paired with younger and weaker
ones.
4. Give each pair a coloured pen.
5. Explain that pairs must find one card at a time and return to categories they must write then write the word
with in the category. Each correctly placed word will win a point. Ensure coloured pens are different for each
group so points can be easily counted.
6. As students are writing the words in categories ask them what words they have to practice and where
necessary model pronunciation.

Set a 10 minute time limit.


Materials: Timer/ vocabulary cards/ category cards/ coloured pens
