EA 701/702: Internship Experience

Plan of Work: Oakland University

Michigan Standard I- Visionary Leadership


Goal- I will develop my leadership skills and knowledge of the school PBIS plan and
continue implementation serving as a co-chair of the committee.
Activity- (Leadership) I will co-chair the committee and we will work on developing
new ideas that will be instituted as part of our School-Wide PBIS plan.
Activity- (Participation) I will serve as a member of the School-wide PBIS team.
Activity- (Observation) I will create an opportunity to receive feedback from the staff
on a monthly basis of the changes in PBIS that have taken place. This feedback will be
discussed at the monthly PBIS committee meetings.
Timeline- We will continue to change and modify the PBIS program for the betterment
of the children and our staff.
Support Needed- Release time will be provided for both myself, the other co-chair and
the social worker to work on plans for the betterment of the PBIS program.
Michigan Standard II- Cultural and Instructional Leadership
Goal- Develop my mentoring skills and contribute to the supportive culture of my
school.
Activity- (Leadership) I will serve as a mentor for one of our new teachers in our school
district.
Timeline- This is a three-year commitment.
Support Needed- Time needed to meet with administration if there are issues with my
mentors performance or challenges that the mentor might be facing to receive extra
support and guidance.
Goal- Increase my knowledge of how effective Professional Learning Communities
(PLCs) are run and how we can continue to develop meaningful conversations within
these communities.
Activity- (Participation) I will serve as an active participant in my grade-level PLC
meetings.
Activity- (Observation) I will take an opportunity to observe other PLC meetings within
our building.
Timeline- This is an every year commitment to learning with time for regular PLC
meetings implemented within staff meetings or late starts.
Support Needed- Time for administration support visits to our PLC meetings and make
sure we are on track with the targeted outcomes of our meetings that are presented before
we break into PLCs.
Goal- Understand and serve on the district wide planning and implementation committee
of the mentor/mentee meetings within the district.
Activity- (Leadership) I will develop, with the collaboration of the other three Galileo
Leaders in our district, the topics and programming for all three of the district meetings
where mentor/mentee teachers meet.
Timeline- These meetings occur three times a year for the next two years.
Support Needed- The four Galileo leaders from the district collaborate with the
coordinator for the mentor/mentee program to ensure that meetings run smoothly.

Michigan Standard III- Management Leadership


Goal- Increase my knowledge of developing a master class schedule for upperelementary classes merging with the co-taught classes, so that there are teachers or
support staff present during core curriculum instruction.
Activity- (Leadership) I will chair the meetings that require third, fourth, and fifth
grade teachers, as well as our special education teachers, to meet to determine when all
core subjects are taught within the school day and coordinate a plan as to how we will
meet the needs of our special education students that are pushed in to the co-taught
classrooms so they are receiving support within the general education classroom.
Timeline- This is an on-going commitment to our students and staff on a yearly basis.
Support Needed- Our school principal will attend at least one of the collaboration
meetings to help with the scheduling piece and provide support.
Goal- Increase my knowledge of school safety and to better implement the crisis plan
within our building.
Activity- (Participation) I will serve as a member of our schools Crisis Management
Team.
Activity- (Observation) I will serve as a representative for our building to go and view
other buildings Crisis Management Plans and their implementation to benefit our own
schools plan.
Timeline- This will be an on-going activity to ensure safety for all of our Snow School
students.
Support Needed- Time provided for our Crisis Management Team to meet and come
together to talk about the plan that is already in place and where there is room for
improvement. To provide release time for me to visit other schools within the district and
sit down with their principal to hear about the implementation of their school plan.
Michigan Standard IV- Community Leadership
Goal- Development of an extensive mentor program within our elementary school using
members of our own community, high school students from our feeder high school right
in the neighborhood.
Activity- (Leadership) I will be one of the chairmen on the further development of this
program working with our school social worker and leaders at Edsel Ford High School.
Activity- (Participation) I will guide the high school students to be strong mentor
leaders within the classrooms of our elementary building.
Activity- (Observation) I will observe classrooms where the high school mentors are
present and determine how to guide the training that they receive to make this program
effective with the students they are influencing.
Timeline- This program had begun last year. We are furthering developing it into the
2014-2015 school year with the high school leaders, myself and our Snow School social
worker.
Support Needed- The high school and elementary school administrator have to work in
collaboration with the leaders of this committee to get a very strong program of
mentor/mentee partnerships built. This could be a tremendous program that we are

fostering and developing if done correctly. The leaders would also need release time to
meet together and further develop the program.
Michigan Standard V- Ethical Leadership
Goal- Develop my further understanding of the Dearborn Public Schools Code of
Conduct.
Activity- (Leadership) I will present my knowledge that I gain of the Student Code of
Conduct to further the entire staffs understanding of the document.
Activity- (Participation) I will discuss the importance of the Students Code of Conduct
with the director of Student Services to better understand the importance of the document
and how they utilize it when it comes to student disciplinary meetings.
Activity- (Observation) I will attend a student disciplinary action meeting this year to
observe how the Code of Conduct plays a role in that meeting.
Timeline- These activities will be on-going throughout this year and the upcoming 20142015 school year.
Support Needed- Administration to allow time to speak with the staff regarding the
Student Code of Conduct ad key features, time to attend a student disciplinary action
meeting, and possibly time to talk with the Director of Student Services regarding how
the Code of Conduct effects discipline within the district.
Michigan Standard VI- Political Leadership
Goal- Gain further knowledge of the mentor/mentee project we are working on within
our building and our feeder high school, so that we can present this idea to the Dearborn
School Board and possibly to Wayne County RESA for further development within our
district and other potential districts.
Activity- (Leadership) I will serve as a spokesperson for the mentor/mentee program we
are developing so that we can share our knowledge within the district and other districts
who might want to develop something similar.
Activity- (Participation) I will attend workshops to further develop this idea that we
have begun to make it a strong program.
Activity- (Observation) I will look into visiting schools that might be implementing a
program similar to the one that we are developing in the Dearborn Public Schools.
Timeline- These are on-going activities to promote a program that has strong
implications for elementary students further down the road.
Support Needed- Time release to observe different schools that might use similar
mentor/mentee models.
Michigan Standard VII- Technology Leadership
Goal- Increase my knowledge of the current technology available in the district for
instructional purposes.
Activity- (Participation) I will attend in-services that increase my knowledge of the
technology that we currently have within the district to better instruct students within the
classroom.

Timeline- This is an on-going activity to promote better instruction.


Support Needed- Having the district make available further professional development
for the usage of the technology that is available in the classrooms.
