QCOMPINFORMATION:

PLC,Observations/Coaching,andGoals

themainfocusofthePLCthisyearwastohaveallstaffmastertheskillsidentifiedonthe
observationrubric.Therubricwasdevelopedwithstaffinputandtheideawastogivestaff
opportunitytoteamanddeveloptheobservableteachingskillsweallknowtobemosteffective
intheclassroom.

PLCsalsoweregivenlatitudetofocusonwhatmostpertainstotheirpractices.Elementarymet
oncemonthlyingradelevelsandoncemonthlyincurriculumteams.HighSchoolmetin
curriculumbasedteamsand,forexampleinmySpecialEdTeam,wediscussedspecific
studentandprogramneeds,strategies,andcontinuumofeducationalsuccessforourstudents.

JusttodayandagaintomorrowAmyVoigt,KellySeibert,andmyselfareattendingaPLC
leadershipacademyandworkingontweakingourPLCplanfornextyear.OVerallthefeedback
fromstaffwaspositive,therehasbeenrequestforsomechangesinPLCmakeupandweare
focussingoneithermakingthosechangesorcreatingaplanthatwillincorporatethosestaff
memberneedstomakeforamorevaluableexperience.

Observations:100%ofourstaffwasobserved3timesthisschoolyear.Aportionisobserved
byeitherMr.HansenorMrs.Harlan,therestarecoachedbyourteamofcoaches:stevefuchs,
anniejost,Stacieschneider,andadamronnenbergintheElementaryandLeahRoske,Jeanne
Omvig,EricMeyerandKimFynboh.Wealsoparticipateindualobservation,sowecanmake
sureourinnerraterreliabilityisstrong.Ifeelthisisthemostvaluablepieceoftheprogram.It
givesteachersanopportunitytoshowandgrow.TheconversationsIhavewithmycoachhelp
usbothlearnabouttheartofteaching.

Goals:Thestaffsettheirownprofessionalgoals,theyaretohavebeginningandendingdataas
wellasaplanatthestartoftheyear,andattheendoftheyeartheyaretoreportwhattheydid
toworktowardreachingtheirgoalandwhattheoutcomewas.Finally,eachschoolsetgoalsfor
theschoolyear,thesegoalswerebasedonMCAscoresandthisyearthefocuswasonreading
scores.Thefinaltestresultshaveyettobesharedwiththeschools,sowearenotsureifwe
reachedourgoalsthisyear.

Finally,thereisanopportunitytomakechangeseachyear,asthiswasmyfirstyearIsimply
wantedtofinishtheyear,thenreflectandplantohaveconversationsaboutplanchangeswith
thestaffandtheschoolboardnextJanuaryforthe201617schoolyear.Thosechangesmay
includeaddingspecificlanguageaboutmaternityleaves,extendedmedicalleaves,early
releasefromcontracts,havingthepeercoachesevaluatetheleadpeercoaches,and
compensationincreases.Idontliketorushwiththesetypesofdecisions,whichiswhyIwillbe
talkingwithyouaboutitinthefuture,thankyou!
