The following points should be discussed with students prior to their first test. This is also located on the district NWEA Resource Site on SharePoint, * Grades K-2, show the NWEA Warm-up video prior to your 1° testing day. Note: Links to both will be e-mailed to you, but can also be found on the Sharepoint NWEA, site. What is the purpose of the MAP test? * MAP builds a unique test for each student. (MAP = Measures of Academic Progress) * They are not expected to know the answer to every question. ‘+ Students cannot skip items and they cannot go back, They may change their answer as many times as they like, but once students have clicked or hit the key, the answer is locked in. + The tests are not timed, but students need to work productively. «Students should use their best test-taking sills. ‘© What are some key technical tips? (See page 13-21) After reading directions, “Do your best” is the standard reply if the directions don't provide the proctor/ teacher with any other options. All students need to know how to use the scroll bar. Remind students they cannot use textbooks, other materials, number lines, or hand- held calculators, They may only bring a book to read after finishing the test. For math test have students bring a pencil and blank piece of paper—they may use these for math. Remind students to go to the restroom and get a drink prior to test time. Preparing your Students for NWEA (MAP) Testing Show the PowerPoint presentation (Village Oaks website>Library Media Center>NWEA Resources) to your students. The following points should be discussed with students prior to their first test. This is also located on the district NWEA Resource Site on SharePoint. What is the purpose of the MAP test? MAP builds a unique test for each student. They are not expected to know the answer to every question. They cannot skip items and they cannot go back. ‘They may change their answer as many times as they like, but once they have clicked or hit the key, the answer is locked in. The tests are not timed, but they need to work productively. They should use their best test-taking skills (review with them: sounding out familiar words; looking for root words; using prefixes, suffixes; looking at surrounding test for clues; reading directions and entire item clearly; and eliminating wrong answers). All students need to know how to use the scroll bar. Remind students they cannot use textbooks, other materials, number lines, or hand-held calculators. Village Oaks Elementary School Fall 2012 On Test Day For Grades 1-2 | For Grades 3-4 Teachers: | Teacher Log in to each computer to set up the test (it takes about 15 minutes) for the next class (This should be done for you, but if not. 1. Go to Start > All Programs > Test Taker >TestTkr 2. Type in Name: 8697VOE (note: VOE is upper-case) 3. Password: 3gxhqe (note: no “u" follows q) 4, Under Subject, choose Reading either a. PREREAD Survey w/Goals {PhonAware,Phonics,ConPrnt) or b. PREREAD Survey w/Goals {Vocab,Comprehen,Writing) 5. Under Subject, choose Math either a. PREMATH Survey w/Goals (Prslv,Number Sense,Comp) or b, PRI-MATH Survey w/Goals (Meas/Geo, Stat, Prob and Alg) 6. Click Next at bottom of screen 7. Leave Student Selection screen on computer until student comes in, Students: 1. Type in your last name 2. Click Search 3. Highlight your name 4. Click Finish 5. Wait until your teacher double-checks your screen to make sure it is your name and the proper test has been loaded. Then he or she will tell you to click Start Test. IMPORTANT: When a student is finishes, click Control- Shift-K to be able to select it—then click Continue. Remind students they cannot use textbooks, other materials, number lines, or hand-held calculators. They may only bring a book to read after finishing the test. Remind students that they should have used the restroom and got a drink prior to test time, Have students bring a book to read when they have completed testing. Remain in the lab with your students throughout the testing session Remember you are vital to the testing process. Students generally do better in testing situations when their teacher is positive and encouraging! After the Test Explain to students that after answering the last question, they will see their final results on the screen. At this time, they may quietly read the book which they have brought with them to the lab. As individual students carefully turn away from the computer and begin reading, the teacher can reset the computer for the next student. Students should not click anything when finished. When students complete a test, do not print the report that appears on the screen. You don't need to print the results for each student, you can log in online (see below] to get a one page list of your students’ scores and print one page instead of 25. Wait a day or two for results to be uploaded, Or bring in a list of your students and write down their scores before resetting or logging out To see NWEA Test Results Logon to the reports website https://reports.nwea.org/Login.aspx Enter your login and password, In the menu bar on the left under Online Reports, click “Class by subject” Select Term: “Fall 2012” This window should show up and you can choose your name and subject to view your students scores. Click Submit Village Oaks Elementary School Fall 2012 Accommodations Allowable accommodations during test: © No reading any part of language usage or reading test (for all students—general ed, special ed, and ELL) ‘© May read/pronounce (not explain what it means) a difficult word in science and math only as long as no additional clues are given (for all students—general ed, special ed, and ELL) ‘+ IFIEP allows test to be read to Special Ed student, this may be done in science and math only. Check with Debbie or Lori to see if any of your Special Ed students need this accommodation per their IEP. Or a Special Ed teacher may need to be present during your Special Ed students’ testing time. ‘+ Ifa student is absent during a test, provide a make-up opportunity ASAP when the student returns. Please write any student who has missed the test on the make-up sheet ‘Once the testing window is complete, there will be no make-ups. © Explain to the students that the tests are adaptive and students will not be taking/seeing the same items and perhaps not completing the tests at the same time. ELL Students Check with Amy Jones, as certain ELL students should not participate in some of the NWEA tests.
