6th Semester
A. LEARNING OBJECTIVE
After learning the module, students are expected to have the ability in understanding the
basic mechanism related to the occurrence of the injury / traumatic wound, and the
condition assosiated with injury / traumatic wound and the characteristic of wound. This
includes wounds caused by stabbing, blunt trauma (punching, kicking, beating etc),
strangling, biting, shooting, falling from a height, being hit by a vehicle, and blast trauma
from explosives. In addition, students are also expected to distinguish the time when the
injury/ traumatic wound happened, whether it happened pre-mortem or post-mortem
(prior or after the death of the victims), and to establish as the closest possible cause of
death (COD) using Proximus Mortis Approach (PMA) in the event of death which is as a
consequence of injury / traumatic wound.
B. LEARNING TARGET
After learning the module, the students are expect to be able to :
1. Explain the pathomechanism of injury / traumatic wound using the knowledge of
histology, anatomy, physiology of the human body..
2. Describe the characteristic of wounds.
3. Explain the possible characteristic of agent that might cause wound.
4. Explain the severity / degree of the wound in accordance with the establish law.
5. Establish the closest possible cause of death (COD) using Proximus Mortis
Approach (PMA) in the event of death which is as a consequence of injury /
traumatic wound.
C. LEARNING STRATEGY
1. A leader-led group discussion, facilitated by a tutor
2. A leader-led group discussion, without a tutor
3. Experts consultation
4. Experts lecture in a general class
5. Self-study activities in the library with books, magazines, slides, tape recorder,
video or the internet.
D. SCENARIO
(Module 1.2) A 28-year-old women admitted to the local clinic (Puskesmas) and
escorted by the police. She confessed that she was beated by her husband last
night. She tried to run away from home, yet the husband is too strong for her.
They just entered 3 years of married, with a 2-year-old daughter. Her right eye is
particularly painfull, yet no vision disturbance. She had headache since last night
and feeling nausea, she can remember every detail of the incidence. She
reported the brutal act of her husband in a nearby police station. However, she
has no idea whether she has made a correct decision. She has no intention to
have her husband detained by the police, because financially the whole family
depend on her husband.
E. STUDENTS TASK
1. After reading the scenarios thoroughly, the students must discuss the cases in a
leader-led group discussion. Both the leader and the secretary are chosen by the
students themselves.
2. Conducting a self study by providing data/ information that will support the
discussion
3. Conducting a self-coached group discussion (without tutor), brain storming
among the group member to analyze and synthesize new information
4. Consulting the problems revealed during the PBL session to the experts for a
better understanding
5. Attending the provided experts lecture for unsolved problems

G. SCHEDULE ACTIVITIES
1.
First meeting in a general class lecture; the lecture delivers primarily a one way
communication of lecturing, followed with asking question session.

A leader-led group discussion, facilitated by a tutor and to report the selfstudy result
Reporting the last discussion result as well as for synthesizing the recently
identified information.

Third meeting.
Objective:
Conducted in a general class, applying a panel discussion format, in which
students report the final results of each groups discussion, clarifying things that
remain unsolved by the groups, and sharing information and findings with other
groups.
