Recruiting Volunteers:

but, I need

more volunteers!

When making volunteer

recruitment calls to prospect lists,
think about it the same way you
think about voter ID calls.
On average, between 2-5% of
volunteer recruitment calls to
prospect lists will result in a new
volunteer.
That means for every 10 new
volunteers you need, you will
need to make more than 275
volunteer recruitment calls to a
prospect list.

Training Volunteers
Take the time train your
volunteers.
How to canvass door-to-door.
How to make phone calls.
How to give a speech to a
group.

Give volunteers specific

assignments.
Utilize their specific skill set.
Republican Victory
Institute

You need to be holding

volunteer trainings on a
regular basis.
Training volunteers as they
enter your office for the first
time is critical, but making sure
they have an opportunity to ask
questions and better
understand our concepts is
critical too.
A well-trained volunteer is
effective and efficient.

Knowing your Volunteers

It is important to
know that every
volunteer has a
unique skill set that
can be applied to:
Phones
Doors
Administrative work
Republican Victory
Institute

Knowing your Volunteers

Take advantage of selfish motivations

Dont wait for people to volunteer; seek them out
Give volunteers specific tasks with timelines and due
dates
Cut out any unnecessary red tape, efficiency is key
Recognize when a volunteer can take on more
responsibility
Be patient

motivated

There is no limit to the number of activities.

Organize them to make volunteering a
rewarding and enjoyable experience.
Always keep in mind your volunteers level
of experience. Some have worked in
campaigns. For others, it will be the first

Top Volunteer Name: Faith Doyle

Office: Boca Raton
Total Calls: 15,000
Total Doors: 3,125

Background: Faith started volunteering at my office

before we were even open. She was very eager to work
for Romney. She comes in consistently, at least 5 days a
week and is always ready to knock doors. Due to the job
climate, Faith graduated college last year and had been
unable to find work. She felt that President Obama was
not doing enough to help the economy and that the jobs
market needed to improve. She was able to find a job,
but not one that fits her degree. Even upon finding a
job, Faith made time to still come into the office and be
on the streets knocking doors, whether if it was raining
or not. I can always rely on Faith.

Top Volunteer Name: Mitch Zurbaran

Office: Miami

Total Calls: 1,200

Total Doors: 7,300

Background: Mitch began volunteering in July

when he started college. He has been in the
office every week since he first came in and
has made over 1,200 calls and hit over 7,000
doors. Mitch volunteers because he believes
Mitt Romney is the man that can turn our
economy around and has shown a devotion
and good attitude ever since he came into
the office. He is one of my go to guys, and a
respected/great asset to my office.

Ten ways to ensure volunteers return

1. Make sure they receive a good
reward for their work.
2. Make their places as
comfortable as possible.
3. Volunteers always have to have
a supervisor.
4. Take special care of your best
volunteers.
5. Make volunteers feel like they
are part of the team. Ask for
their opinions and feedback.
Republican Victory
Institute

6. Make ample use of thank-you

notes and volunteer newsletters.
7. Always stay in contact with all
volunteers.
8. Dont become impatient with
inexperienced volunteers.
9. Give volunteers the opportunity
to contact the candidate.
10.Give the volunteers a good
leader.

Things to remember
Dont take the base for granted.
Know their motivations.
Treat them right!
Create activities to motivate
your volunteers.
Volunteers have to be friendly.
