DIGITAL FIRING ANGLE CONTROL

Firing angle control technique is used to

control power to a load like heaters, motors
etc. Firing angle control technique can be use
with both single and three phase voltages. To
regulate the power by controlling voltage or
current through a load. Firing angle control
can be implemented using analog or digital
control technique. Analog control for FAC
requires complex circuitry while digital
control FAC are relatively less complex and
easy
to
program
in
the
field.
Microcontrollers are playing their roll in
industry for controls of different instruments.

BLOCK DIAGRAM
Microcontroller based FAC synchronize itself with zero
crossings of voltages of incoming power sinusoidal
voltages and using interrupts it calculates firing angle
based on command input. For every half cycle in a 50Hz
based system firing angle can be varied from 0 to 180
degree or from 0 to 10mSec. Micro controller generates
firing pulses which are applied to Thyristor Bridge using
pulse transformers. Thyristor Bridge could be wired for
AC or DC control.

APPLICATIONS
The phase angle control technique is commonly used in many
LIGHT INTENSITY CONTROL
SPEED OF AC MOTORS
REMOTE MONITORING THROUGH SERIAL LINK
STEEL ROLLING MILLS IN METAL INDUSTRY
FAN SPEED CONTROL IN CEMENT INDUSTRY
