AMR is a system that uses electronic meters and modems to remotely collect electricity usage data from customers and aggregate it to generate reports on feeder performance and supply status. This allows utilities like APCPDCL to better monitor the electricity network and identify interruptions or other issues. Currently, APCPDCL implements AMR for high voltage feeders and customers, but it may expand to all low voltage customers to help reduce tampering and increase revenues. The system uses GPRS/GSM modems connected to meters to transfer usage data to a server on a scheduled basis.

AMR (Automatically Meter Reading) is basically capturing data from
remotely located electronic Energy meters. Such data pulled from meters is dumped into the server in scheduled intervals of time. It is basically a windows based application software for dialing, reading meters and aggregation of data to generate meaningful MIS reports viz. 1. Feeder breakdowns and interruptions 2. Supply status monitoring on feeders especially Agricultural feeders The timely (instantaneous) information coupled with analysis can help both utility (APCPDCL) and also customers for better control, the use and production of Electric Energy. At present APCPDCL has been executing the AMR project in its jurisdiction(Hyderabad,Rangareddy,Medak,Nalgonda,Kurnool,Mahaboobna gar,Ananthapur)and scope covers for 11 KV Feeders & HT services only. In future the project may be extended to all LT Services by which tampering can be reduced through which company losses can be reduced & revenue can be increased. TECHNICAL DETAILS AMR hardware consists of GPRS/GSM modems, sim cards data concentrator/multiplexer and intelligent modems. The modem is capable of 4 MB memory storage. The GPRS enabled simcards are provided by M/S BSNL BASIC WORKING: The AMR unit (modem) is physically connected to the meter, the data being transferred from meter to the modem and it is dumped to the server in scheduled time interval through GPRS.
