PROBLEM STATEMENT
Heliocentric position of earth r = 1AU and longitude of 41.26 for Pluto
at r = 39.557AU and a longitude of 194.66 when the line of apsides is
placed at longitude of 25. Find the radius at Periapsis.

Given Data:
1 = 1AU

1 = 41.26

r2 = 39.557AU

2 = 194.66

= 25
Solution:

1 = 1
= 41.26 25
= 16.26

= 2 -

= 194.66 25
= 169.66

As it is known
=

2 1
11 22

39.557 1
116.26 39.557cos169.66

= .

Radius at Periapsis =

1(1+1)
1+
1(1+0.96716.26)
1+0.967

= 0.980AU
Hence the radius at Periapsis comes out to be

Radius at Periapsis : rp = 0.980AU
