The internal, political position of Sigismund after his return from the
pattle at Nikopel worsened by the invasion of the Moravian Margrave Pro-
kop to Slovakia, at the beginning of the year 1397. This problem has not

ance with the Lords’ Union and with Prokop’s brother Jot,
the enemies of Prokop and King Wenceslas IV was a very
suitable pretence for Prokop to take advantage of the inner chaos in Hun-
gary. @ Sigismund’s absence and soon after his return by the end
of the year 1396.
Prokop invaded North Slovakia probably at the turn of the years 1396 to
1397 along with the Polish Prince Ladislas. We learn about this event for
the first time on January 30th, 1397, when Stephan Bishop of Gyér, Johann
from Pastov, the country judge and Ladislas Bubek appealed to the KoSice
burghers to stand on the side of the king in the fight against the Moravian
Margrave Prokop and his allies.” In those days Prokop’s armies penetrated
already as far as in Turiec and Liptov where they took hold of the castle
of Lukava and were preparing to invade Spi.” Simultaneously they assured
the burghers of KoSice to hold out, because the king would soon come
and help them?
Also the recording from the town chronicle of Banska Bystrica comes
from those days. According to this recording the Bystrica citizens sent spies
to find out what was the situation like in Liptov and Turiec in connection
with Prokop’s invasion.‘ It seems that Prokop’s military action was only
of temporal nature with no lasting consequences, as there are no other
recordings about the stay of his armies in North Slovakia. King Sigismund,
however, bestowed Peter, son of Ladislas from Liptovska Anna, the royal
estate Bobrovtek excluded from the property of the Liptov Big Castle
