Sex & Worship Romans 1:18-25

Sex can be, or rather is, a deeply spiritual matter. We were created to have relationship
with God and with people. One of the most intimate acts of relationship with God is worship.
Likewise, sex is one of the most intimate acts of relationship with people. So when man
rejected God, and chose to worship created beings, he perverted his worship. As punishment,
God gave him over to his sexual lusts, perverting sex. Sex was always intended to be a way of
worshipping God, as was all parts of life. When either worship or sex is perverted, the other
soon follows. The worship of created beings, be they in the image of man, woman, or animal,
led to the sexualized corruption of those beings. The true worship of God will lead to healing of
the sexual corruption. True worship of God cannot be mingled with corrupt sex. They are both
conditions of the soul and cannot coexist for long. Either God is worshipped, or sex is
corrupted. Praise be to God that He will heal us from our corruption.
