1. A gas is at STP.

Calculate the pressure of the gas when its temperature is doubled and volume is
reduced to half? (STP refers to a temperature of 0oC or 273K and a pressure of 1Atm which is
equal to 1.013x105Pa).

From universal gas equation we have

2. What is the average kinetic energy of a molecule of a gas at 20oC?

3. Find the number of moles in 195g of oxygen gas.

Molar mass of oxygen = 32g

4. The portion AB of the following graph refers to the variation of pressure with the volume during
the compression of a gas. Prove that the temperature of the gas is a constant during the
compression.

If temperature is a constant during compression (shown as AB in the graph) then PV=constant.

So points A and B in graph are at same temperature. So gas compression represented by AB happens
at constant temperature.
5. The portion of the following graph 12 refers to the expansion of a gas at constant
temperature:

At the point 1 the pressure of the gas is 2x106Pa and the volume is 1m3. At the point 2, the
volume of the gas is 3m3. What is the pressure of the gas at the point 2?
Since expansion happens at constant temperature
