Board Meeting Minutes


April 8, 2015
Call to order
Director of Junior Clubs Diane McCurley called to order the April Board meeting of the GFWC of Massachusetts
Junior Membership at 7:17 p.m. at Headquarters in Sudbury, MA. The Junior Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance
to the Flag of the United State of America were recited.
Roll call
Recording Secretary Jen Nowak conducted roll call: 14 present, 9 excused and 1 absent
Approval of minutes
Minutes of the March Executive Board Meeting on 3/11/15 were approved as written.
Correspondence
Corresponding Secretary Cindy Brogan reported the following:
Received Nothing
Sent Invites to annual conference to Lynne Sullivan and Elfriede Parker. Get Well card to Mary Ann Pierce.

Welcome and Introductions


Director of Junior Clubs Diane McCurley welcomed the board members and thanked Beth McCurley, Ann Bastian
and Janice Hynes for preparing the meal. A fun GFWC quiz was played and the winner received a prize.

Reports of Chairman
o Arts Mary Kemp Thanked all clubs who entered contests all year long. Recognition will be given at
conference.
o Conservation Jean Zucker (excused) via email asked clubs to take part in the upcoming earth day and
clean up after a long winter, possibly encourage schools to join in too.
o Education Ellen Burns (excused) via email confirmed there will be two (2) scholarships awarded this
year for $500 each.
o International Outreach Cindy Brogan Thanked clubs for their generous donations given.
o Public Issues Katie Robey no report
o Advocates for Children Theresa Frias reminded clubs to encourage todays youth to get out and be
active after the long winter. Remind the kids of old fashion out door games, such ask hop scotch or jump
rope. Also visit www.naturesswimming.com for top 12 swimming holes in MA.
o Communications and Public Relations Donna Shibley - A great way to spread the GFWC name is to buy
the new GFWC Postage Stamps. And the new awareness challenge this year is Lyme Awarness,
suggested to think of doing the challenge at Junior Fun Night.
o Community Improvement Award Nancy Clark nothing to report
o Domestic Violence Samantha Rudd (excused) no report
o Leadership Jen Nowak Suggestions were given on how to be prepared for chairman presentations at
annual conference. And reminded clubs to get their Manual Sheets in, they are due by May 15, 2015.
o Membership Martha Casassa Asked for all clubs to let her know about any new members, so she can
report to GFWC in DC. Was also very happy to see many new nominations for Martha Michalewich.
o Meetings Marisa Jablanski Reported 30 registered so far for conference, deadline is next week.
o Fundraising T Jablanski New jewelry designs will be at Annual Conference
o Website Nancy Clark no report
District /Nominating Reps nothing reported
Unfinished Business
o Theresa Frias spoke about the Calendar Raffle with the profits to be split between GFWC of MA Junior
Membership and individual clubs. She wants to get commitment from clubs to solicit golf clubs in their
area for prizes. Each club needs to get a minimum of 2 prizes of substantial value. Once the tickets go on
sale the ticket price would be split with the club that sells the ticket and Junior Membership. Clubs need
to let Theresa know soon so a decision can be made to move forward on this fundraiser.
New Business
o Program for Conference was reviewed, adjustments were discussed and made.
o A donation to Youth Villages will be made at conference, the amount in the Directors Rain-boutique fund
will be reviewed by officers and the amount will be decided by the Director.
o Presidents Packages will be handed out at conference, if any chairman had information to include please
contact the Director or bring 40 copies to conference with them.

Gift to GFWC Headquarters this year will be for refurbishment of the infrastructure of the building, main
staircase, floors and wall paneling. A motion was made by T Jablanski for $100 from Junior Membership
for this years gift. This was amended by Cindy Brogan for $125 (in honor of the 125th Anniversary). The
amended motion passed.
2015-2016 Budget - Nancy Clark prepared the budget that is due to GFWC of MA Council by June 1st. Jen
Nowak made a motion to accept the budget as presented, the motion was passed.

Diane McCurley presented the closing thought in the form of a visual presentation. Ending with this statement:
You are the leaders of GFWC of Massachusetts Junior Membership. Let us look forward to celebrating all you and
our clubs had done on April 25th!
The Junior Pledge was recited.
Diane McCurley adjourned the meeting at 9:01 p.m.
