ALTERNATIVES FOR

INNOVATIVE MATH STUDY A.I.M.S.

The Rules of the Board Game
The rules of the game are as follows:
1. The players start from the bottom left corner/square The beginning. The group
needs an observer: this can either be a teacher or a student. The observer isn't playing
the game, but keeps track of the score (he/she also fills in the answer sheet) and reads
the questions out loud. The questions also could be read out loud by a player to keep
the other players more involved.
2. The first player throws the dice, multiplies the numbers and according to the result,
he goes to the equivalent position/square, where there is the name of a chapter
(History of Maths for example).
3. The player picks up a card which corresponds to this chapter and reads a question.
If he/she gives the correct answer, he/she wins two (2) points. If the answer is not
correct, the player does not get any points. The used card goes at the bottom of the
respective stack
4. Each player takes his/her turn until everybody has drawn the dice. Then, the first
player throws the dice again followed by the other players.
5. There are some squares on the board where there is no chapter mentioned but there
is an award, e.g. double your points, or a penalty, e.g you lose.... In that case,
the player follows the given instructions.
6. The game continues until one of the players reaches the end of the route, which is
at the top left corner/square. Alternatively, if decided at the beginning at the game, it
can stop after a fixed time.
7. The winner is the player who has gained the most points.
Equipment
1. A board (divided into squares like the chess board)
2. Two dice
3. 7 pawns
4. Cards with the names of the chapters and with questions and answers written on
them.
5. Scrap paper and pen for calculating the numbers of points.
