AfterWorldWarII,TemanggungRegencywasoneoftheareasincentralJavawheretheCommunistParty
(PKI)hadisruralstrongholds.Inthe21stcenturyTemanggungRegencyprovidedahideoutformembers
oftheIslamistJemaahIslamiyah.[1]

Religion
ThemajorityofthepopulationoftheTemanggungRegencyisMuslim.ItwasoncepredominatelyHindu
forthousandsofyears.TheoldeststonestructureinIndonesiaisfoundhere4templeofShivaoneofthe
trinityofHinduism.Thoughtherewere400only4remain.[2]

Economy
ThebigcashcropintheTemanggungRegencyistobacco.[3]Othercashcropsincludepatchoulioil,honey
andsoyoil.Thetraditionalherbalmedicine,jamu,isthebasisofalocalindustryaswellasisthe
productionofcigars.SilkwormsareraisedintheareaaroundthetownofCandiroto.

Transportation
ThereisaraillinefromParakanthroughthetownofTemanggungsouthtoMagelangandontojunction
withthecoastalraillines,[4]however,itiscurrentlyclosedbythegovernmentduetotheoperationalcosts.

GondosuliTempleAnewlydiscoveredtemplelocated13kmfromthetownofTemanggung.
KledungahighlyscenicpassbetweenMountSumbing(3371M)andMountSundoro(3133M),it
iscrossedataround2340M,andtheviewsaregreat.Located20kmfromTemanggung,Itis
