Project 3: Case Study Analysis

Comparable to the majority of scholastically determined college students, Katya
is a freshman that has experienced the shared angst of students before their exams. As a
scholarship sponsored scholar, Katya tackles added stress and anxiety by this as her
scholarship position is centered on her chemistry exam performance. Emotions such as
this may be several of the toughest hindrances to surmount as the mental state of mind
may be deeply induced by low self-esteem. The fact that she has had a panic attack
because of immense stress because of this exam showcases how much pressure students
are actually undergoing.
If I were Katya I would communicate to the professor about what is going on and
obtain professional guidance. Occasionally there are moments in life when there is just
too much for an individual to handle and in these instances obtaining professional
guidance may create all the difference. Allowing her teacher know about the gravity of
the matter can offer Katya with some clemency or supplementary assistance about what
can be on the exam. Similar to Katya, I too have experienced high levels of stress while
attending college, but there constantly seems to be a repetition. The absence of slumber,
aerobics, time management and self-reliance continually emerges when my stress levels
rise steeply. There was a time in my life where I was so consumed with the notion of
graduating on time that I started to mound units and ultimately burn myself out.
Fundamentally, I recognized that I set idealistic goals and reaching out to my friends so I
can express my feelings, opinions and acquire advice can be beneficial to enhance my
situation.
To decrease the amount of stress in Katyas life there must be several variations.
According to Misra and McKean (2000), physiological benefits from leisure activities

significantly reduced academic stressors and reactions to stressors among college
students. Similar to most students, I think Katya had such high expectations for herself
that may be impractical. Perhaps next semester/quarter she should register in fewer units
to guarantee she is not overwhelming herself. My last advice for Katya is for her to get
involved. According to the ADAA website, volunteering or finding another way to be
active in your community, creates a support network and gives you a break from
everyday stress. Also, she can practice yoga, listen to music, meditate, get a massage,
or learn relaxation techniques. Stepping back from the problem helps clear your head.
Furthermore Springer Science indicated, developing psychosocial assets -- including
adaptive social and emotional skills, positive self-perceptions, and supportive
interpersonal relationships -- demonstrate adaptive links to mental health and academic
performance and retention. Not only will it decrease her stress instantly, but also it can
simultaneously develop her confidence offering even enhanced results. If she makes these
alterations I am certain she will become a completely changed and self-reliant student.
Appropriate time management, self-assurance and taking care of yourself are
fundamental for students to perform appropriately and evade matters such as panic
attacks. Receiving further help from friends or counselors is vital when any of those
aforesaid aspects appear to be suffering. However there are other methods to survive the
hardship. Nevertheless, all matters, work or school connected, may be settled with
reaching out and pondering on what needs to be done.
