B. Developmental Activities 1. Presentation Mang Rodrigo planted 12 varieties of fruit trees last year. Per variety, he was able to have 16 bags of fruits. How many bags of fruits did he harvest? Performing the Activity Group the pupils into six working teams. Ask them to think of strategies in multiplying mentally 16 x 12. Expected answer Solution 1: By mental computation 16 Mentally multiply the multiplicand by the ones: 2 x 16 = 32 x42 Mentally multiply the multiplicand by the tens: 10 x 16 = 160 Mentally add the partial products: = 192 Solution 2: By using the Distributive Property 16x 12 = 16x (10 +2) 160 + 32 192 3.
