1. The first part that stood out to me is the picture of the ship which took the slaves along
with plantation crops and goods from Africa to other countries; and America was one of
them. This stood out to me because the picture reminded me of a movie that I watched
back then in middle school when we were going over the topic of slavery. I will never
forget the movie scene of all the slaves squeezed into one underground room; they were
chained and only have a small moving area where they eat, sleep and also use the
restroom there. The picture seems like a big ship, but it is hard to imagine how packed it
is to have millions of slaves in that ship.
2. The second part that stood out to me is the run-away slave ads picture because I actually
never know that the slave-owners would spend money to post an ad to try to find back
their slaves. I thought most of the time if they runaway, they will just let them go and find
another slave to replace.
3. The second part that stood out to me is the story of George Washingtons slave Deborah
Squash because I thought it will be interesting to hear story about George Washington. I
think it is very ironic for Washington to ask Sir Guy Carleton to free the slave but end up
having Deborah as his slave. I am just wondering if Washington is saving Deborah or not;
although she ends up escape from the life of slavery.
4. The fourth part that stood out to me is the quote: Did all men are created equal mean
that slavery was illegal? Conversely, could the new government take away a slaveholder's
legal property without compensation? from the Constituting a State with free Black

New Yorkers because I also have the same thought. I also judge the meaning of all men
are created equal because I strongly believe that is statement does not work out just like
what the document says: what about the slaves? Although in 1782, the Court decides to
free all Massachusetts slaves, there are millions of slaves out there who were still living
in such a painful life.
5. The fifth part that stood out to me is the small article urging blacks to leave because I

am surprise that these slaves (Black New Yorkers) after experiencing a though ad painful
life as slaves would like to stay in America to become citizens of United State of
America.
