Conducive to Optimal Brain Development

Kindergarten After School Program

With fewer children, the pace will be slower and more child- directed.
There will be time for the children to use materials designated for
afternoon play. The afternoon will also provide your child with some
breathing room. Whereas the morning curriculum, by its very nature,
is more structured, our after school program will allow children the time
and space needed to further internalize the information of the morning,
or use extra energy or simply engage themselves in their own chosen
play scripts.

Kindergarten Tuition Policy

Kindergarten tuition is a constant amount for nine and one half months.
Kindergarten will be closed for two weeks during the Christmas Season and one
week during Spring Break. These weeks will coincide with the Rincon Valley School
District closures. During these vacation weeks, if a full time child attends BCC,
he/she could join the Penguin class.

Miss Meara has been at Bethlehem Childrens Center since

1998. She has had experience working with infants through
kindergarten. Miss Meara holds an Early Childhood Teacher
Credential and has worked in several early learning programs
including the NAEYC Accredited Lab School at Santa Rosa
Junior College. Meara has an intuitive awareness of emergent
curriculum needs in young children enabling her to offer a
program rich in child-directed learning experiences. Because
she understands the importance of the outdoor environment,
you may find her engaging the children in rock collecting, insect
observation or nature hiking. Miss Meara takes the time to
build special relationships with each child whether it be during
snack or free choice time. Her afternoon program provides
some down time for the children allowing them to engage in
silly, joyful play experiences needed for healthy socialemotional development. Meara makes the afternoons a
cheerful place to be.

Experiential activities will be provided with an emphasis on letter/sound

recognition and phonemic awareness development along with a rich
literature based approach to learning. Through the use of blocks,
manipulatives and writing tools, your child will develop his/her fine motor
skills. Songs, poems and literature will offer your child the opportunity to
further develop his/her (oral) language expression and vocabulary
development. Large and small group activities will help your children gain
an awareness of themselves and their place within the group. The teachers
will prepare an environment conducive to success thereby
strengthening your childs self-esteem.
Common Core Kindergarten State Standards along with the Preschool
Learning Foundations guide the teachers in implementing developmentally
appropriate kindergarten instruction. (Resource Publication: The Alignment of the

Dear Families,
We are dedicated to the positive growth and development of
young children. It is our belief that children learn best in an
environment that is rich with a variety of literature, hands-on
materials and a socially active atmosphere.
When the environment is designed for children, discipline
problems rarely occur. This enables us to focus completely
upon the development of your child.
We begin each morning with a group time. During this time
we discuss a variety of topics based on the weekly theme.
The children learn and internalize this knowledge through
literature, songs, storytelling and interactive word stories and
poems. Following circle time, the environment is prepared
with a variety of activities that compliment the theme. The
activities are provided to encourage growth in all areas of
development (socially, physically, cognitively, creatively and
literacy). The children work at their own level with little
pressure but lots of praise for their attempts. The later part of
the morning is designated to the Core Knowledge Curriculum.
This involves a short group time with teacher-directed activities
to follow. We end our morning with a large group gathering
and the Special Person leads us in prayer.
We believe your childs first learning experiences should be
fun. Learning builds pride and confidence. The world is a
wondrous place and there is joy in learning about it at
Bethlehem. Curiosity, an open mind, the challenge to find out
and the reward of knowledge begin in Kindergarten.

The Importance of Environment

Our Curriculum is designed to promote the maximum
amount of growth and development for your child. The
curriculum can best be described as a web; the threads of
language arts, reading, dramatic play, science, math,
writing and music are all woven together; ideas and concepts intersecting and overlapping, to form an intricate
web of knowledge and experience for your child.
