Celebrate LGBTQ Pride!
Our city has a rich history of Lesbian,
Gay, Bisexual & Transgender acAvism. Long
a haven of progressive poliAcs and
inclusion, even San Francisco struggled
with LGBTQ acceptance.
This book display highlights just a fracAon
of our library holdings on LGBTQ history
and poliAcs, focusing mainly on San
Franciscos role in the movement. You can

Did You Know?


Pride month commemorates the June
1969 Stonewall Riots. These occurred
at the Stonewall Inn, a bar in New York
Citys Greenwich Village, where gay,
lesbian and transgender patrons rioted
following a police raid.
In 1966, 3 years before Stonewall,
transgender and drag queen patrons
at Comptons Cafeteria in San
Franciscos Tenderloin neighborhood
fought back in response to poor
treatment by police.
CCSF oered a Gay Literature course
beginning in 1972, the rst of its kind
in the U.S.
On June 28th, San Francisco will host
its 44th Pride Parade. EsAmated
a]endance for 2014 was 1.7 million.
