TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER

Court order issued for a limited period as (1) an emergency remedy, (2)
to prohibit a person from an action likely to cause irreparable harm, or (3) to maintain status
quo. A TRO is issued only in exceptional circumstances and lasts only until the hearing for a
preliminary or permanent injunction, or for determining appropriate relief, can be held. It differs
from an injunction in that it may be granted immediately, without notifying
the defendant in advance, and (3) without Ahearing
A temporary restraining order (TRO), another type of short-term order, is usually in effect for less than a month.
Usually, its issued when you apply for a restraining order. Its purpose is to give you protection until a hearing
can be held and a restraining order can be issued.
A restraining order is a court order directing someone to do or not do certain things. Its a piece of paper a
judge signs stating the terms someone must follow or else risk legal consequences.
