Operating organizations- also known as carriers- concerned with

5. Operating Strategies- vehicle routing, scheduling, and traffic control
Physical Civil Engineering- ce activity related to the provision of physical facilities
System engineering- ce activity related to planning and operation of the
transportation system
Modes of Transportation
1. Highways- used to tuck lines and bus lines
2. Urban transit- traditional mass transit modes, such as buses,
Commuters- persons making work tips
Choice riders
Captive riders- those without access to automobiles
3. Air- includes airlines, airfreight carriers, general aviation
4. Rail private railroads
5. Water- consists coastwise ocean shipping and barge lines operating on inland
waterways
