Strengths
Great job of bringing in real objects (bag
and can of dog food) to make the lesson
come alive. You had the kids engage in
partner talk with a prompt related to the
content.
You continue to do an amazing job with
your positive, strong presence.
You asked volunteers to raise hands
based on their predictions of whether 47
cans of dog food fit in a grocery bag.
You provided the kids hands on materials
to help them explore volume.
The quick write related to prior
knowledge is so helpful for formative
assessment and bringing key information
related to the content to the forefront on
their minds.
Your cooperating teacher mentioned that
you stay for teacher meetings and that
you are invested in the work. Your
professionalism is shining through.
The kids are invited and motivated
Great job of clarifying directions with the
kids.
Your lesson is openended and promotes
critical thinking. You have planned in
opportunities for collaboration.
You made connections to prior learning
related to collaboration.
The directions are clear. You set up
accountability with the collaborative
poster.
You asked kids to generate ways to
collaborate with such a large group.
You are organized with materials and
having a table representative gather
their supplies.

Considerations
There were a lot of directions in the
beginning but you did have the poster
expectations up to keep the focus.
The groups were large. Even though you
had kids think of ways to collaborate and
split up the work, could you have made
groups of 4 instead and let them sit
around the room?
You rang the bell to add on more
information. Were you talking over the
kids? The kids were excited and the
group is large so be sure to hold on to
your quiet signal expectations.
When groups shared, were the other kids
listening with a focus? Could the
audience members ask questions and
provide feedback? When you have a
time crunch, you can have groups
present to each other instead of the
whole group.
Did the kids have enough time to decide
how to present? Was their equity in
participation? Did all kids add to the
poster and say something during the
presentation. Be aware that your English
learners might let more English
dominant kids take over.

Great job of linking math and literature.
Interdisciplinary connections are
important and help kids see the
interrelatedness of different content
areas.
Excellent Common Core implementation.
You are promoting a positive classroom
culture alive with collaboration,

their learning.
Tori, its such a pleasure to observe you
thrive!
When you circulate around you do a
great job of prompting the kids to help
them focus and promote critical thinking.
You gave the kids a 10 minute warning.
Nice job on the pacing of the lesson.
Great job of being prepared with the can
of tuna as an extension to the lesson.
When the groups presented, you posed
questions to clarify and ask kids to
explain their thinking.
The groups solved the problem in
different ways and your highlighted the
various thinking.
