DEST 4800- Human Trafficking Tentative Schedule as of May 6” June 8 — June 11: Attend class from 10:00 - 11:50 am Students will attend a regularly scheduled class on the University of North Texas campus. Bach day, we will cover topics related to human trafficking, Romania history, policy/laws related to trafficking, and individual/family/community/societal outcomes related to trafficking. Students will also learn how to conduct anti-trafficking awareness workshops. June 12 — June 13: Depart from Dallas/Ft. Worth (DFW) ‘Asa group, all students will depart from DFW Friday afternoon, DEW — LHR (BA 1505) 3:45 pm—6:55 am LHR — OTP (BA 886) 10:55 am~ 4:10 pm June 13: Arrive in Bucharest and recover We will recover from the flight, get checked into our hotel and have a group dinner. Sites may include Parliament Palace, Constitution Square, Revolution Square, Old Town, and the Arch de Triumph. June 15 — June 23: Work with eLiberare, the Ruth School, Asociatia FREE, and the Open Door Foundation During this time in Bucharest, students will work on numerous projects with a variety of organizations around Bucharest. Topics/activities will include parent/teacher trainings, work in schools, activities with children, visits to shelters/NGOs, and community awareness. Specific daily schedules are planned in advance and will allow for free evenings to enjoy dinner and the city. June 23 — June 24: Brasov We will depart Bucharest early and head north to Brasov (3 hours). We will enjoy lunch in Brasov when we first arrive and will spend the afternoon touring Bran Castle followed by a relaxing evening in the city center. The next moming, we will visit Peles Castle before departing for Turda (3.5 hours). On the way to Turda, we will stop for a break in Sighisoara for lunch and to visit Vad Tepes birthplace. Topies/activities will include advocacy, a theater project, and volunteerism. Also during this time, we will visit the Turda Gorge and the Salina Turda Salt Mines. Before arriving in Oradea, we will stop to work in Lugasu de Sus (a local school) in Alesd. After leading afternoon activities with the children, we will enjoy dinner and the evening in Oradea. On Tuesday (June 30s), we will travel south of Oradea to Sumugiu (30 km) to work with another school. During our day and a half in Budapest, we will visit various sites including the Royal Palace, Vienna Gate, Parliament, and Heroes Square. We will see all these sites primarily by utilizing a Hop On/Hop Off tour bus company in the city and by foot. July 7 — July 9: Attend class from 10:00 - 11:50 am Students will attend a regularly scheduled class on the University of North Texas campus. We will spend the remaining days of the class debriefing and discussing opportunities, issues, and reflections on the trip.
