Montgomery Bus Boycott
The Montgomery Bus Boycott and Liberation Theology are very well connected. The
liberation theology is when religion is used, to eliminate poverty, discrimination, and other
forms of injustice in a society (Witt 203). Religion is another institution that has great influence
in numerous, numerous people. Religion can be used as a method of defense for a group of
people; all the people under the religion can reinforce their beliefs in society with their willpower
for change.
This occurred in the Montgomery Bus Boycott where Montgomerys Dexter Avenue
Baptist church elected Martin Luther King, Jr. to continue the boycott of 1955. Their driving
force was religionand they used it as the only thing they had left to fight with. King was only
26, and he was a new minster in town that helped make one of the greatest social changes is
history: the elimination of segregation.
