Teacher’s Notes Type of school: kindergarten Type of activity: TPR, group work, pair work, individual work, no writing skills required Language: names of colours (red, blue, yellow, black, brown, green), numbers revision Time: 20-30 minutes Preparation: Prepare objects or flashcards of different colours: (red, blue, yellow, black, brown, green). You are going to use them to present the colour words to the: Pupils. ‘Make sure pupils have crayons (coloured pens etc.) scissors and glue ready for the class. Photocopy Worksheet 1 and Worksheet 2 (one per: ‘each pupil plus one of each for you). Worksheet 1: Colour your picture beforehand but don't show it to: ‘the children until they have finished the activity. Worksheet 1: Colour the elements of your handout so that each: square is different colour (red, blue, yellow, black, brown, green). Cut and glue the elements so that you: get a cube. You may want to have one more blank: ‘copy to demonstrate the cutting and sticking while: the children are performing the activity. Procedure: 1. Tell the children that you are going to talk about: colours. Ask them in Polish to give you the names of: ‘their favourite colours. 2. Present the names of colours to the pupils. Each ‘time you show an object/flashcard, say the word aloud and drill it. Ask the pupils to point to other: ‘objects in the room which are this colour. 3. Tell the children that they are going to need: numbers 1-6 for the next activity. Ask the children to: ‘turn to a friend next to them and tell the numbers: ‘aloud to each other. At the end, count to six with the: whole group. 4, Distribute Worksheet 1 (one per pupil). After the children have coloured the squares, : ‘ask them to cut out the shape and stick the ‘appropriate parts together to form a cube.: 6. The ready cubes can be used in many different? ways. Two possibilities are as follows: AL : ‘Children work in pairs, throw the cube on the floor: ‘and name the colour on the top of the cube. : B. Children work in groups of 5-6. One child throws the ‘cube to another saying any colour they wish. The: child can catch the cube ONLY if the colour has NOT: been black. In that case the cube is ‘hot’ and should not be caught. i Extension: ‘Mixing colours. You should use crayons or water: paints for this activity. Tell the pupils that when you: mix some colours (primary colours), they will form: another colour (e.g. red = blue = purple; yellow +: blue = green). Encourage pupils to try out different possibilities on: ‘a blank sheet of paper. You may treat it as an: ‘opportunity to each extra colour names in English. PHOTOCOPIABLE
