This work emerges as an experimental attempt to verify the validity of the

theoretical model used to interface relation proposed by Chicot and Lesage. For
this, we present a study on the mechanical properties of the interface from
instrumented penetration testing. One of the important points of the study is
related to the characteristics of materials in micro deformations and the influence
of defects on the mechanical properties. Discussions are carried on intrinsic
properties, in particular the behavior of the modulus of elasticity for different
situations, in which the materials are used. Samples of sucker rods, which are
used in oil production equipment to develop this work were collected. These rods
were coated with two different materials, one from a NiCr alloy and the other
with Al, both obtained by thermal spraying process (spraying arc). Cross cuts
were made in hates and then subjected to metallographic for subsequent testing
of embodiments of the instrumented penetration coating and the substrate
interface of each sample treatments. With the results obtained in the tests we
apply the theoretical model thus trying to verify its validity.
