Guring a forced landing following @ loss of engine power on takeoff fron Northeast Florida Regional
Airport (S6J}, St, Augustine, Florids. ‘the student pilot and flight instructor were not injured
Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan wes filed for the local instructional
flight, which was conducted under the provisions of Title 14 Code cf Federal Regulations Part
‘The flight instructor stated that she and the student pilot had departed 86J about 40 minutes earlier,
and had practiced naneavers in the Iocal practice area before returning to the alrport for practice
fakeofts and landings, During the fourth takeoff, st an altitude about 200 feet above ground level,
the engine experienced a losa of power. The flight lnatructor assumed control of the airplane and
initiated a lest turn to return to the aizport. The aizplans touched down in a grassy area
Perpendicular to taxivay Bravo, the nose landing gear collapsed, and the airplane continued across the
Eaxiway, where it came to reat upright.
Postaccident examination revealed eubstantial damage to the engine firewall. Examination of the engine
was scheduled for @ later date
