Load the EMTDC/PSCAD simulation tool and open C:\ Program files / PSCAD / examples /
Sync_machines / sync_SCtest (synchronous generator short circuit test model) file and save
it in your personal directory.

Figure 2: Three phase view of the short circuit test model

Simulation 1: Simulate the three-phase balanced fault. Check the peak magnitude of the
fault current using the generator and transformer data. Comment on
DC offsets of the traces
Waveform shape of all traces
Instant of the fault applied and its effects on the current
Simulation 2: Change your model to include the high resistance (100 Ohms/phase) circuit.
Simulate the three-phase balanced fault and comment on the result.

- Lab 1 Assignment 1
Simulation 3: Change your model to include the high reactance (0.1 H/phase) circuit.
Simulate the three-phase balanced fault and comment on the result.
Simulation 4: Change your model to include the high impedance circuit (100 Ohms and 0.1
H in series/phase). Simulate the three-phase balanced fault and comment on the result.
Simulation 5: Change your model to include the resistive load (100 Ohms/phase). Simulate
the three-phase balanced fault and comment on the result. Change the field voltage E f (2.0)
to boost the terminal voltage back to 230kV and simulate the three-phase balanced fault and
comment on the result.
