6 Selecting and Evaluating Digital Tools & Resources

Candidates collaborate with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital
tools and resources for accuracy, suitability, and compatibility with the school technology
infrastructure. (PSC 3.6/ISTE 3f)
Reflection
This artifact is a presentation on an emerging technology. The emerging technology I
researched and presented was 3-D printing. 3-D Printing is recognized as an emerging
technology on the cutting edge of design and manufacturing. 3-D printing is a process
for making a physical object from a three dimensional digital model by laying down
many successive thin layers of a material. In creating this presentation, I researched my
schools technology program and technology infrastructure.
The creation of this presentation on 3-D printing demonstrates my ability collaborate
with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources. In
creating my presentation on this emerging technology I researched my schools policies
and procedures for selecting and purchasing new technology tools. My presentation
explains how this emerging technology meets the criteria for accuracy, suitability, and
compatibility with my schools technology infrastructure. As I researched this emerging
technology I collaborated with my schools CTAE director in evaluating the suitability
and compatibility with the schools technology infrastructure.
After creating this presentation I have a better understanding of the evaluation and
selection process of digital tools and resources. The process of creating this presentation
also taught me how a school systems policies, funding strategies and technology
infrastructure must be considered when adopting new technologies. In the future when I
go through the process of evaluating and selecting digital tools and resources I will
collaborate with more teachers and administrators. This process has taught me that
collaboration with others is essential when selecting new technology for a school
program.
This presentation on 3-D printing included how it could improve student achievement
in our CTAE and science departments. The impact of this artifact on school improvement
and student learning can be accomplished by evaluating how my schools CTAE program
is using its new 3-D printers and by evaluating students completion of the CTAE
engineering pathway.
