OTHER ISUES TO BE CONSIDERED WITH DUE WAITAGE

Backfilling up to FGL inside reservoir compounds

In Al Saram, Al Hayma and Mudhairib, this item is involved, which is to be done as per
requirement. Contractor is looking for free money in this item. Many structures including the
compound wall are coming in back filled areas. If not properly monitored, payment may be
released for same work even up to three times under different heads. Tipco has already
raised RFIs for such payments and were rejected. (Eg. Excavation for Guard House in Al
Sarm, Chlorination building, Earthwork for boundary walls etc.)
Concrete grade 20/20 backfill to excavated unsuitable material provisional item Keep an
eye on the claims of this item in all reservoirs.
Shuttering for base slab is to be monitored. Claims were not confirming to CESM.
Roads drawings are not confirming to the specifications. Contractor is trying to get the
approval with reduced width. Unit of payment is linear meter and hence width shall be based
on the latest Oman roads standards.
Drawings of Elevated Tank are to be reviewed and submitted.
Excavation quantities shall not be certified without physically verifying with site. Always
claiming high.
Quality of concrete is to be monitored very closely. (Up to 50% concrete is rejected once in
Sarm due to inconsistency). We had quality issues in Al Qabil Roof slab (done during hot
weather).
After the arrival of Mr. Revi, a practice is started. Without offering inspection, they are
proceeding with concrete or other works. RFIs are either thrown somewhere in the office
without follow up by the concerned Engineer and later asking for approval. (Compound wall
RFI was rejected three times for different issues and it is found that the concrete for the base
was done without our knowledge. Dimension of the slab is not confirming to the drawings
and hence the work is to be removed and redone. (Requirement is 635 mm whereas done at
site is 400 mm.)
Please be informed that they are trying to generate variations, wherever possible and
approvals of any kind even at the site works (RFIs) shall be closely monitored. Practice of
submitting one copy of drawings and writing 3 in the transmittal letter and keeping the
only original with the Contractor, is to be stopped. (Started by Mr. Naji Habeeb to help the
contractor to save stationary).
