Survivor of Domestic Violence brings
Awareness and Hope!
July 17,
2015 Cedar City, UT
Local resident, Linda Hudson is an achieved student, recipient of an honored
national scholarship, a respected professional at the Leavitt Group, a loving singlemother, and a survivor of Domestic Violence. Linda has gone from victim to victorious. Having fled an abusive marriage, Linda has since been engaged in a journey of healing. She has become a respected and dedicated activist for the Canyon Creek Womens Crisis Center. Her work is admirable in that, she has the ability to reach out to people in need of support and encouragement. At times, this could mean a life or death situation for someone in an abusive situation. In November 2014, the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition held their 23 rd Annual Leadership Forum in Provo, UT titled, Energize & Empower; Share, Learn, and Connect survivors and advocates. The Conference provided a space for participants to share best and emerging practices, learn from the experience and expertise of others, and connect with fellow advocates and allies. As a keynote speaker, Ms. Hudson presented on how empowerment and support create survivor success. She spoke of her journey and created a powerful learning environment for several healthcare professionals, social workers, law enforcement and other advocate supporters. Southern Utah University (SUU) prepares its students like Ms. Hudson in a very distinctive manner. SUU focuses on their Education Designed to Give Experience (EDGE) which means SUU graduates leave campus with a competitive advantage as candidates for employment or graduate school. Ms. Hudson aligned her EDGE Project with the Community Engagement Center which is a resource for connecting students to more than 70 community partners as well as home to several on-going and center-sponsored programs. Ms. Hudson continues to work alongside with community partner, Canyon Creek Womens Crisis Center. According to Ms. Hudson, It would be impossible for me to give up my newly found courage. I continue to get stronger and I refuse to give up the momentum!###
