If the shaft rotates at 1000 revolutions per minute, determine the gear ratio and the input power assuming an efficiency of 70%. (4 marks) ) Figure 1 shows an epicyelic gearbox with a fixed ring gear C. The input D rotates at 200 revoll ns per minute in a clockwise manner when viewed from the left with a torque of 40Nm. If the efficiency of the gearbox is 60%, calculate: i) The gear ratio (4 marks) ii) The output speed and direction (4 marks) iii) Output power (4 marks) iv) The holding torque. The coefficient of friction between the block and surface is 0.41. Calculate the force parallel to the plane that would make the block slide downwards. (6 marks) b) Crank OA rotates anti clockwise about O at 1600 revolutions per minute as shown in figure 2. At the instant shown, determine the velocity of the piston B and the angular velocity of AB about point A. A (14 marks) Figure 2 Question 3 a) A centrifugal clutch shown in figure 3 must transmit a torque of 20 Nm at a speed of 210 rev/min, ‘The coefficient of friction between the drum and the friction lining is 0.4. (8 marks) Question 4 a) What is the purpose of a flywheel? Identify an area where a flywheel is used. (6 marks) ) A torque — angle diagram for a punching machine is shown in figure 4. The enclosed areas, are: A; =350J, Ax = 700J, As = 500J, Ay = 150J.
