Damm. Samantha Damm Professor Raymond uwRT 1300 5 July 2015 ‘The Begining Although time passes before one’s eyes, some memories are simply never forgotten. Growing up ina family that lacked an abundance of money caused a lot of complications within ‘my household, but no matter how hard our life became my mom somehow always managed to ‘provide her children with books to read before we went to bed. Living with two brothers helped to shape me into the reader I am today because they both pushed me out of my comfort zone, Having gh older brother pushed me because I always aimed to be the smartest ofthe three of us child. Iwas forced to read some ofthe mor challenging books from our bookshelf ust so coy brag to him that 1 was just as god ofa reader ashe was, despite us being two years apart lite brother nurtured my itercy narrative by allowing me read to him when he was still not ‘able to read on his own due this learning dsabiliy. All hee of us greatly benefited from the time spent with one another and we stil reminisce about the amazing memories we shared together with our noses stuck in a book, ‘As soon as the minute hand reached the top of our blue clock that hungover our kitchen table, andthe hour hand pointed down othe eight, we knew that the bed time routine would soon begin, My brothers and I would start this process by brushing our teth, putting on our pajamas, and picking outa book for us to read. My nightly book choice would always be Green Eggs and Ham by Doctor Seuss simply forthe fact that the main character and I shared the same Damm 2 first name. Although I was very adamant about getting my way, my brothers normally won our nightly book battle entirely for the fact that they outnumbered me two to one. Once we were finally able to reach a consensus on a book that we all managed to agree on, I would climb onto the couch, pull my fuzzy warm blanket over my body, and sit there patiently waiting while my mom grabbed all three of us an ice cold cup of milk. I still to this day remember rubbing my feet against the covers trying to make myself as comfortable as possible anxiously awaiting my mom. {o retum so that we could start reading our story for the night. ‘The memories of the many books that we as a family read sitting on that tan sofa couch «will always forever be embedded in my heart. My literacy narrative all started in that tiny double wide trailer that I grew up in, Looking back and reflecting on what I had growing up as a child does nothing but motivates me to become a better person and to create a better literacy narrative for myself with the hopes of becoming successful and providing for my children one day. In conclusion, I would not be the same person I am today without the experiences I went through with my family. I will always be appreciative for how much they have helped to mold me into A or o son on the person I am today.
