Literacy Narrative: My Rood to Literary V/
As I reminisce* on my tiest enceyaters
As I think back to the very first time I began learning how to read and write, | realize that
the earliest memories area blur. have never truly thought about how LTeamed to read and write A
unt this assignment. tis odd that most people donot think about certain things like this that
have such an important impact on their lives,
‘The first books I most vividly remember using to practice my reading skills were
incentive books that my mom would buy me. Incentive books are books that many parents buy
for their children to get them to enjoy reading. For example, some of the books that | stated off
reading had packets of star stickers attached to them. Everytime I read the book, or achieved a
certain goal while reading the book, I was able to adda star to the back cover. Once all ofthe
star spots were filled, my mom would award me with a special treat Eventually, I came to love
reading so much that incentives were no longer needed. I started off reading books such as: The
Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Berenstain Bears series, Dr. Seuss books, Brown Bear, Brown
Bear, What Do You See?, and many other classics. I had an unusually small period in my
childhood in which ead actual “children's books.” took to reading higher level books earlier
