BACKGROUND THEORY OF THE ELECTRIC STARTER MOTER

SYSTEMS
As we all know, every aircraft that have been build until now needs a
method or a way to start up the aircraft engine. Throughout the
development of aircraft engines, a number of methods which have
been incorporated to starting the aircraft engines have been used and
its mainly involved have varied from technicians swinging the
propeller, to electric motors and electric controls which incorporated in
turbo starter units. But some of the light aircraft are still required the
manual starting swinging method but most of the light aircraft using
engines that uses electric motors . There may have some light aircraft
uses a complicated starting system but most of the light aircraft
adopted simplest way of the starting sequence to save maintenance
and cost of the component or parts which required for starting. In a
simplest form, the system of light aircraft electric starter motor
systems consists of a motor, an engaging gear, a relay and a starter
switch.

This is the design that I created using the ISIS program. In this design,
the power is supplied by the 24 DC volt batteries to the whole circuit.
The connection from the battery power goes through the
coil(relay)which powers up the coil and makes the relay switched on.
From the connection from the coil, it goes to the switch and to the
ground. So when the relay one switches ON, the power is supplied to
the busbar and to the second coil. The one that making the second coil
turn is the push button which is situated after the coil itself. When the
push button is pressed, the coil will be energized or switched ON, by
doing that it will be supplying the power from the batteries to power
up the DC motor. The most important work is that all the connection
should be ground properly.
OPERATION
The circuit is using a 24 DC volt batteries. When the starter switch is
closed, direct current from the battery supplied to the busbar and
busbar energizes the starter relay, the contact of the relay making the
current pass through and supplys the current to the motor.
