To understand cancer, you have to understand how tissues form together. There are multiple
layers of tissue that form a single organ. The top most layer is called the
epithelium. Then

called the lumen. Cancerous tissue ‘grow to fill the lumen and full blown cancer will interrupt the

Kimlin Ashing-Giwa answers questions about how breast cancer affect culture today. During the
interview the interviewer kept asking about cancer and its relations with minorities. The way the
questions were worded it seemed like it was meant to attack the African-American and Latino
community. Some questions asked if religion had a big factor in latino women’s decision for
reconstruction because a lot of latino religions don’t believe in western medicine. THe
questions

Summarization:
Radiation therapy is aka radiotherapy. Like i stated before it is used as a direct method to kill
off cancerous cells that might have been left behind after surgery, or to shrink tumors that are too
large for surgery. Radiotherapy is basically a high powered x-ray that is directed in an isolated
spot on the body. Radiation is typically given to women that have gotten a lumpectomy but, can
also be used after a mastectomy in very rare occasions.
This source has very valuable information on radiotherapy. it has other articles on different
aspects of breast cancer. I will put this informaticn on the same link as mastectomy slide, Make
sure to include information on lumpectomies aed add picture (most likely draw them).

Summarization:
This article talks about how positive thinking can really make a difference in your recovery rate.
‘The lady in this article just got diagnosed with breast cancer and is planning her remission party
because she believes if she thinks she’s going to survive then she will. The article ends with her
planning her annual trip to the beach. She says even if she becomes weak from the chemo and
radiation treatments she will still go. She wants to enjoy life as she knows it and cancer won’t
stop her.
I won't use this article because I believe we have enough information about culture; even though
is is a touching story and it’s nice to see a woman like her take a negative situation and turn it
into a positive.Trice 6

‘Summarization:
Angelina Jolie had a preventive double mastectomy done about two years ago. She did that
because she had a 87% chance of getting breast cancer. Her mother, grandmother and aunt
unfortunately passed away with various cancer (breast cancer and ovarian cancer). She
believes women should take preventive methods such as this to prevent the development of
cancer. Most recently she has gotten a laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy ( she
got her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed) because she wanted to eliminate the
chance of developing ovarian cancer as her aunt did.
I will use this information as on of my Culture slides...1 completely disagree with
‘Angelina Jolie's choices. Its her body and she can do whatever she wants with it but
every woman does not have the funds to do what she did. A genomic analysis is very —
expensive and all the surgery she did to prevent cancer is expensive as well. I believe
‘Angelina Jolie is a hypochondriac (she has good reason to be) who cuts out perfectly
normal parts out of her body even though her doctors say she’s fine and then tries to
justify it by saying she did it to prevent cancer. It might but it would be very ironic if she
xgets cancer on someplace else. I just don't like the idea shes planting in peoples heads to
get rid of perfectly good body parts to prevent something that you don’t have. Women
