AiM : To test for starch, glucose, protein and fat

MateriaL : 1% starch solution, 10% glucose solution, 1 % albumen solution,


cooking oil, benedict’s solution, iodine solution, millon’s reagent,
ethanol, distilled water.

Apparatus : Dropper, test tube, beaker, tripod stand, wire gauze, Bunsen burner.

ProceDur :

Iodine test for starch

✔ Pour 2 cm³ of starch solution into a test tube


✔ Add 2 drops of iodine solution. Observe the colour change

Benedict’s test for glucose

✔ Pour 2 cm³ of glucose solution into a test tube.


✔ Add 2 cm³ of Benedict’s solution.
✔ Heat the mixture in a water bath as shown in Figure 2.2.
Observe any colour change in the mixture.

Millon’s test for protein

✔ Pour 2 cm³ of albumen solution into a test tube.


✔ Add 2 drops of millon’s reagent to the albumen solution .
✔ Heat the mixture in a water bath. Observe any change in the
mixture.
