Connect the Dichro 67 lamp: Il, OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS A, Inserting Lens You will need to use a lens of the appropriate focal length for the negative format from which you will be printing, which you attach to the lensboard to mount’ on the enlarger. Remove jam nut from lens, ingert lens through board and firmly screw in jam nut. Note that the bottom of the lens stage con- tains two retaining strips. With the back edge of the lensboard tilted upward, insert it into the groave above the rear retaining strip. Push ihe Tensboard back inte the groove and raise the front edge until the board is level, A leat soaring in the rear graove will push the lensboard into the groove above the front retaining strip and hold it in position, Be sure the lensbaard is securely held at the front and rear of the lens stage. To remove the lensboard, reverse the procedure, See Fig. 11, Figat house to its standard or stabilized power supply. ©. Condenser and Filter Holder Installation (Condenser Lamphouse Only) 4. Remove the lamphouse door by sliding it up and out of its tracks. 2, Follows the instructions in Fig. 10 and in: serl each condenser and filter holder where indicated. A spring in the carrier hinge will keep the upper plate slightly raised to facilitate inserting a negative and/or moving a strip of negatives through the cartier, ‘Te position the nogative carrier in the enlarger, raise the lamphouse elevating arm, It will automatically lock in an open position. Place the negative carrier on the negative stage and push in until the carrier slots engage the lovating pins at the rear of the stage. Gent: Fig. 12 ly lower the lamphouse elevating arm, so that the lamphouse comes to rest on top of the negative carrier, C. Aecessory Filter Holder ‘The accessory filter holder, attached below the lens stage, accommodates the standard red sately filter, optional variable contrast and special effect (e.g. soft focus) filters and light integrators. The red safety filler may be used when checking composition and position of the projected image while there Is enlarging Paper in the easel. (This filter should not be used when working with color or panchromatic black and white papers, as these materials are sensitive to red light.) The accessory holder mus! ba positioned directly under the lens or fully swung to the left, to avoid partially block- ing the projected image, When printing with variable contrast filters in the holder, if Js important to focus with the filter in the optical path 10 avoid a shift in focus, which can aceur when the filter is in- troduced. D. Elevation and focus. After the negative has been positioned in the Iv. CONDENSER LAMPHOUSE A. The Condenser System The condenser system in the condenser lamp: house consists of two 4” condensers. Con densers may be removed for cleaning of lamp changing by lifting the front edge slightly and pulling straight out. To replace the con densers, insert the back edge into the slot and push toward the back af the enlarger, until the front edge of the condenser drops behind the small lip at the front of the slot. The con: densers are identical, so there Is no danger of reversing them. Be certain, however. that the convex (founded) surfaces are always facing each other. B. Filter Holder (Fig.13) A two-piece filter holder is located between the condensers. Ta remove the halder. lit the front edge slightly and pull straight out. Color Printing (CP), variable contrast of neutral den sity filters, 3¥2" square, are placed between the pieces of the holder, The holder is reinserted by placing it in its slot and sliding it back until the front edge drops behind the lip at the front of the slot. Refer to Section V Paragraph G for color printing information. The same basic color printing principles apply to the Dichro 67 and the 31" x 3s" CP filter: enlarger, the focus may be adjusted by turning the focusing knob, To change magnification, tum the elevation lock knob counterclockwise until you can freely move the enlarger carriage Upand down the column to the desired height The counterbalance spring will help hold the enlarger head in place while you make critical adjustments for focus and elevation. When the projected Image is the correct size and sharply focused. turn the elevation lock knob clockwise and firmly tighten to lock in the height. A magnification reference scala is pro- vided on the column to. enable you to record the height and to repeat your selected image size at a later date, Oversize Prints When an extreme degree of enlargement is desired (greater than 11" x 14"), the enlarger canbe mounted to the baseboard in reversed position to enable you te project images onto an easel placed on the floor. Remember to counterbalance the weight of the enlarger with Several heavy objects on the baseboard or securely clamp tie baseboard to a table before reversing, Then simply remove the four screws (No. 1) at the base, turn the enlarger 180" and reassemble, ©. Heat Absorbing Glass A slot is provided in the condenser lamphouse {for inserting the optional heat absorbing glass (see your dealer for details). The glass aids in protecting the negative from the heat of the enlarging lamp, minimizing any negative buck- ling, and alsa protects the dyes in color negatives and transparencies, V. DICHRO 67 LAMPHOUSE The Diehro 67 lamphouse is composed of three assemblies — the housing, the lamp and filter assembly and the standard mixing chamber. The lamp and filter assembly is removed from the housing by sliding it up and aut of the grooves on either side of {he housing, See Fig, 14, The mixing ‘chamber may then be removed by lifting the front ‘edge slightly and pulling straight out Fig. 4 ‘The 35mm Light Multiplier mixing chamber which doubles the light output is available for printing with 35mm and smaller format negatives and slides. The light multiplier is also recommended for use with "slow" printing materials, which often require greater than normal light intensity or unusually fong printing time. See your dealer for additional details. A. Filtration By turning the appropriate knob on the Dichro 67 lamphouse, any desired amount of cyan. Thagenta or yellow filtration may be introduced Into the light path, The windows above the knobs are color-coded to the color of filtration they control, and show the value of filtration selected for that colar. Supplementary filira tion ef any type may be placed in the ac cessory holder below the lens, and this filtra- tian must be of optical quality glass, gelatin or plastic. B. White Light Love In order to facilitate focusing oF composing, it isoften desireable to temporarily remove filtra tien from the light path, This can be done with the Dichto 67 lamphouse without disturbing the filtor sotlings by using the white light lever on the right side of the colorhead, Pulling the lever toward you will remove the filters. from the light path. Pushing the lever back will restore filtration to the values indicated on the dials, Be certain to-retuca the filters to the light path before exposing your print G, Using the Dichra 67 Lamphouse The objective in eelar printing is usually to reproduce the colars in a photograph to match. as nearly as possible, the colors of the original Subject. In order to accomplish this, st is almost always necessary to make adjustments {0 the color of ihe light source used to expose the color paper. A color analyzer can help determine the correct filtration and exposure time fara well-balanéed print from your color egative or slide, See your dealer or check the inside back cover of Ihis manual tor more details. ‘Once you have determined your filtration values and exposure time, the Dichro 67 lamp: house lets you simply dial in the proper filtra: tion and expose your print, without having to handle conventional CP filters that can get easily scratched or dirty. ‘The Correction Table shows what adjustments are necessary 10 color-correct prints. made trom nagatives or slides. (Color paper manufacturers usually sug, Qest a Starting filter pack for use with their Paper.) Note that there are two possibilities for each correction on the table. Do not make a corres tion which results in more than two filters being used at anyone time. If all three filters are used at the same time, they will cancel out each other, resulting in neutral density filtration and loss of illumination, If you have just started color printing, it is a good idea to save those prints with which you are nel satisfied. On the back of these prints, mark the filtration and exposure with which they were made and compare them to your final prints. This is the best method of learning the effects of changing filtration (and ex posure) on your Dichro 67 lamphouse. D. Black and White Printing with the Dichro 67 Lamphouse VI. ADJUSTMENTS Your enlarger has been fully adjusted and aligned at the factory and should require ne further adjustments. If it does become necessary to make adjustments to the enlarger ln the future, refer to the appropriate sectian below. Alignment af Negative Stage, Lens Stage (Fig.15) In order to ensure flatness of field, it is impor tant that the nogative stage and lens stage be SCREWS Fig. 18 PHILLIPS HEAD ‘Your Dichro 67 lamphouse can be used as a diffusion black and white printing system by setting the filtration knobs at zero or retracting the filters with the white light lever. Diffusion enlargets, when used for black and white, pro- duco a somownat loss contrasty print and minimize graininess. They also tend to conceal dust and scratches an the negative, and are essential when any retouching has been done Sireetly on the negative In addition, if you are using a variable contrast paper, the dichroic filtration may be used to cantrol contrast, eliminating the need for a separate set of fillers. The filtration values in the fable below: may be used for this purpase ‘with Kodak Polycontrast® papers. Polycontrast® Grade: ‘iltration 1 2Y ™% 2¥ 4 OM 2 av 4 2M an 7¥4 40M 3 10Y + 70M av 20 + 140M parallel to the baseboard. MAINTENANCE A, Changing Lamps ‘CAUTION: Be certain that the lamp has cooled sufficiently for handling before attempting to remove. Disconnect power cord from AC source, 1. Condenser Lamphouse — requires a PH140 lamp, 75W, 120V. To replace the lamp, first remove the upper condenser and the filter holder to assure easy access, Unscrew the old lamp and screw in the new lamp Dichro 87 Lamphouse — see page | for lamp. type. Slide the lamp and filter assembly from the housing. Pushing the relamping lever (see Fig.17) toward the basa of the lamp will extract the lamp from the socket. The lamp may then be pulled from its holder. When replacing lamps, be carefuf nat to touch the bulb or the inside of the reflector, a8 this may lead to scorching and premature lamp failure, If you should ac- cidentally touch the bulb, wipe clean with a soft cloth and alcohol, Slide the new lamp. inta the holder as far as if will go so that the pins at the lamp base fully engage the Socket mechanism, loosen or tighten the hex head ‘screws at the bottom of each focusing spring (see Fig.16), a3 needed, Try nat to have one spring much tighter or loaser than the other Relamping Lew B. Lubrication Most moving surfaces in your enlarger are ade of seli-lubricating materials. However. it is adviseable to lubricate moving paris with a small amount of Lubriplate or a medium ‘weight oil every six months. C.
