The day before the activity have the children make silly putty. Invite the children over to a table and Begin to discuss and predict what they think will happen when you put putty in a strainer. After they make their predictions tie a piece of string through a hole on each side of the strainer with a paper clip on the other end. As the children observe what is happening pass out clip boards, paper, and pencils to each of the children so they can record their observations.

Area of Development: Science Age Range: 36-48 months Goal/Objective: To allow the children to observe gravity in action. Materials Needed: Large strainer, silly putty, 3 pieces of strings, paper clips, paper, pencils, clip boards, and a table. Activity Plan: The day before the activity have the children make silly putty. Bring the silly putty out at a table and invite the children over to the table. Begin to discuss and predict with them what they think will happen when you put silly putty in a strainer. After they make their predictions tie a piece of string through a hole on each side of the strainer with a paper clip on the other end. Place the silly putty in the strainer and then hang it from the ceiling above the table. As the children observe what is happening pass out clip boards, paper, and pencils to each of the children so they can record their observations. When they are done with their observations ask they to tell you about what they drew. When their done have them place their clipboards and pencils on the counter and head over to the next activity. Special Needs Adaptation: For children with ADHD have a teacher sit with them directing questions at them and setting limits for them.
