Diversity Plan

Accessibility
One of the main goals when seeking out the venue was finding a facility with proper ADA accessibility.
This was done to ensure everyone with disabilities may enter the venue and participate with dignity. The
facility was wheelchair accessible and met all ADA standards. Restrooms, entrances, exits, and common
areas were accessible to those persons with disabilities. Furthermore, communication barriers were
overcome by using proper signage for those with hearing impairments. Finally, provisions were made
available for guide dogs and companion animals.
Religious Beliefs
Interfaith calendars were examined to avoid scheduling the event during any religious holidays,
observances, or festivals such as Hanukkah and other Buddhist and Christian holidays. Special religious,
dietary considerations were also accommodated, and are discussed further below in the Dietary Needs
section. Also, while a large majority of Salt Lake Citys population is of the Latter Day Saint religion, we
chose not to hold our event on a Sunday, as Sundays are recognized as days of rest.
Ages
The activities at the event were geared toward individuals over the age of 18, and the marketing/program
plan took those ages into consideration. Considerations included music, food choice, location, and dcor
that are popular amongst the targeted age group. Although activities and events were geared toward those
individuals of a younger adult age group, all individuals were welcomed warmly with regard to one of the
main goals of educating the community about the issues that exist with homelessness.
Income
An affordable fee was requested to allow everyone, including those of lower income, to participate. An
entrance fee of $10 dollars, along with a donation of a warm weather article of clothing was necessary to
generate a higher amount of cash and clothing donations for the Road Home.
Dietary Needs & Cultural Practices
Cultural practices, such as dietary limitations were also taken into account. It was necessary to make
possible menu options inclusive of religious and cultural beliefs including; vegan, vegetarian, kosher diet,
Halal foods, gluten/dairy intolerance, diabetics, as well as other potential food allergies, such as eggs,
peanuts, nuts, and soy. Nutritional facts and ingredient lists were available to be provided upon request.
Accommodations were made through communications with the event caterer, Urban Pioneer.
