ROG poem entry

Oliver Anderson
An online life- Reflections on Jon Ronsons So youve been publicly shamed.
Were told that theres an app for that
Linking, connecting
Promoting and posing
Buying and selling
Wading through an ocean of self-indulgence
Praising mediocrity
Watching the outliers
The lunatics, the weirdos
The radicalised, the radicals
Pouncing like hyenas on anyone who sticks out just a bit too far
People are shoved into the stocks
And abuse is hurled at them from all sides
Once a mark has been made against a name
Then that damn spot shall never come out
And all the work in the world
Can never repair what is lost
When an interaction turns sour
Careers, relationships, reputations
All destroyed by complete strangers
Who smell blood in the water
But there are some
Who remain anonymous
Escaping the enraged mob
And live a shameless life
But in the background
The people wait
And search for a victim
To crucify in front of all.
