Position Purpose

To provide input to the welding element of the design process; to support manufacturing during project execution specifically
focussing on welding aspects of production; input to the design of welds; specifying the correct consumables; developing and
providing the appropriate welding procedure specifications for production; maintaining welding procedure qualification
records; providing technical guidance during the prototype build as well as in-line inspections; failure investigations and the
subsequent development of repair procedures.

Position outputs

Position outputs:
The senior welding engineer will be responsible for managing the welding and welding inspection personnel at a national
level. This includes among others:

Welding design input on new and existing designs;

Development of welding procedure specifications;

Welding design changes on prototypes;

Technical reviews;


Input to procurement for sub-contracting and subsequent audits of sub-contractors;

Interaction with customers;

Development of weld maps, sequences and process amendments for prototypes followed by controlled roll-out in
production;

Management of welding inspectors;

Recommendation of the appropriate NDT;

Setup and adherence to the QMS management;

Approval of equipment, consumables and machinery to be used for welding processes; and

Approval of welding on prototypes.

Qualifications & Experience

The incumbent must have successfully completed a BSc. in Metallurgy or Mechanical Engineering,
The incumbent must have successfully completed a MSc in Welding Engineering,
The incumbent must have successfully completed a level 1, level 2 and level 3 SAIW certification
5-8 years experience gained in the Welding environment.
