Abstract:
Manual transmission is most popular among cars used in which gear can be sclected according to road load and driving
condition. It requires human effort, accuracy and skill to select particular gear under different driving conditions. Under
city driving condition itis difficult to shift the gear frequently while nogotiating trafic, The shifting effort and shifting
frequency differs with different age groups and genders. Itmay lead to higher fuel consumption and wear and tear of gear
if iis not properly operated. Its also difficult for the physically challenged people to shift the gear, To overcome this,
difficulty alternative arrangement is essential and hence push button operated gear shifling mechanisms selected.
‘This push button operated gear shifting mechanism is very popular in two wheelers for special purpose vehicles. A Maruti
800, 4 speed manual transmissions with floor mounted gear shifting mechanism is selected for current project work. Four
different concepts for shifting mechanism were generated and the concept was finalized based on manufacturability, cost
and ease of operation. This concept is modelled in CATIA for geometric representation. The basic movement required for
shifting gear is the rotation and linear motion of the gear shifter lever at gear box end. Developed model is analyzed in
ADAMS and found required actuator’s torque to shift gears,
‘Working model of push button operated mechanism has been tested for its functionality with different gears. Gearshifting
is done with ease using electromechanically controlled Push button operated mechanism. Along with this automatic
‘mode is introduced. In this mode, based on wheel speed or transmission output speed and accelerator pedal gears are
shifted, Mode selector switch is provided forthe selection of the mode. For the present controller datas sent from another
‘controller through CAN protocol. This arrangement can be easily incorporated to four wheelers for shifting gears with
‘minimumalterations and the gear position can be indicated and displayed.
