Thislessonrelatestotheconstructivismandsocialconstructivismtheories.Constructivism
statesthatlearningisactiveandaprocesswhereknowledgeisbuilt,notacquire.Italsostatesthat
knowledgeisbuiltbasedonpersonalexperiences.InthislessonwewilluseInterestsurveysand
Eportfolios.Thesebothfitintothistheorybecausestudentsarefullyparticipatingandtheyare
reflectingonthingsthattheyhavelearnedandconnectingeverythingthattheyarelearning
together.Socialconstructivismemphasisesthatcollaboratingisimportantinlearningandall
cognitivefunctionscomefromsocialinteractionandweconstructourknowledgethrough
interactionswithotherpeople.Wewillusegroupworkwherestudentshavetoworktogetherto
makeandpresentapresentation.Thislessonisastudentcenteredactivitybecausethisisall
aboutthestudentandwhatthestudentisinterestedinanditputstheteacherintomoreofa
facilitatorrole.
Eportfoliosalsoworkwiththemultipleintelligencetheory.Multipleintelligencestatesthatall
individualshaveeightintelligencesandtheteachersshouldallowstudentstoexplainthematerial
thattheyhavelearnedintheirownwaysusingthedifferentintelligence.Eportfolioswouldbea
greatwaytohavestudentshowtheircollectionofworkandreflectionsoverwhattheyhavelearned
whichgivesamoreindepthwaytoseewhatthestudentknows.
Thislessonalsosupportsprojectbasedlearningbecausestudentwillexplorerealcareers
andlearnaboutreallifeexperiencesthroughguestspeakersandresearchingjobs.
