This house believes that same sex marriage should not be allowed in the

Philippines.
First of all, when we speak of the definition of marriage majority of people across
civilizations and throughout history would acknowledge that marriage is the union
of a man and a woman, proponents like the early English legal scholar William
Blackstone to the philosopher John Locke , Noah Webster and even the First Edition
of Blacks Law Dictionary defined marriage as the civil status of one man and one
woman united in law for life. Ultimately our very own Civil Code of the Philippines
defines marriage as a special contract of permanent union between a man and a
woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and
family life. There is a common singular definition, the union of a man and a woman.
It is not necessary to insist on allowing same sex in the context of marriage because
it is not what the word marriage purports to be.
