RICHFIELD, Ohio — (BUSINESS WIRE) ~ Over 100 Schwab summer interns and employees around the
country volunteered last Friday at their local Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA). The volunteer day
capped off the end of the interns’ first week as members of the Schwab Intern Academy program. While
‘community outreach is engrained in the Schwab culture, the effort was also an initiative to introduce
tthe interns to the Schwab way and build relationships with their peers.
This volunteer day comes a month after Schwab's 12" annual Volunteer Week where thousands of
employees and executives helped local charities across the country. Approximately 200 Schwab branch
offices participated in the week-long event and helped over 200 charities across the United States.
“tis our goal to provide our interns with a real ‘Schwab’ experience. We believe in the power of
financial education and community service to unleash peoples’ potential. Through financial education
programs, employee volunteerism, and a variety of other charitable activities, Schwab employees are
able to support the communities where they live and work—helping to foster a highly engaged and
committed workforce” said Doug Meckelson, a senior specialist of Schwab Community Programs.
Meckelson also stated that in addition to participating in outreach events, Schwab also provides
financial support to various nonprofits and social causes chosen by employees.
Senior Manager of Organizational Development Angela Heyroth plays a key role in building the
architecture of the Intern Academy and says that the design of the program was very intentional. She
said the goal was “..to establish a long-term talent pipeline into Schwab, and to showcase our culture
and environment to those interns. In essence, we wanted a program that included all of what it means
to be a Schwabbie, stuffed into a multi-week summer experience’.
Photos from the intern volunteer day will be posted throughout the week and can be viewed and
