Dear Sister,

I hope you find yourself well. Sadly, I must confess, I cant say the same about me, since I had an
awful experience that trampled my nerves.
I went to the Sappletons, as you recommended. I was received by Vera, Mrs Sappletons niece.
While we waited for the arrival of the mistress of the house, the young lady told me about a
tragedy that had befallen upon the family not long after your visit. Mrs Sappletons husband, her
two brothers and their spaniel had disappeared under the marshy lands in the vicinities. Mrs.
Sappleton lost her mind, perhaps because the bodies of her beloved ones were never found, and
kept the French windows in the living room open, expecting their return. I arrived on the
anniversary of their misfortune.
Mrs Sappleton finally arrived and I immediately delivered her your letter of recommendation. She
barely read it, since her eyes were constantly drawn towards the open windows. Suddenly, her
face became radiant of happiness while Vera was struck in terror. I looked through the window in
the direction of the marshes and I saw there the figures of the lost men, covered in mud, returning
from their boggy graves. Even the little dog was there. I run as fast as I could; there was no time
for being polite in that accursed house.
I will take the coach to Bath, first thing in the morning. I hope the waters and the airs of Somerset,
as well as the gentle company in town, will make me feel better and relaxed.
Your loving brother,
Framton
