Nowadays, materials recycling is somewhat more than the right ecologica11y
alternative for scrap destination. It is a need, specially for big cities. The municipality,
however, needs organisational actions to rnanage all mechanisms of collection and
delivery systems of recycling materials ftom cities to junk yards or to processing and
transformation industries. In this work it was verified the storage ways of recyclable
materials, the better way to do that, determined by the industries, and storage forms for
each material. Data was obtained by the application of questionnaire to many units that
practice storage of scraps. At Curitiba-PR, Porto Alegre-RS and Belo Horizonte-MG,
cities where the city ha1lsare in association with co-operative societies. Their work
with collection and selection of recycling materiaIs ftom municipal, schools,
condominiums and hospitaIs solid waste show great performance in many aspects that
m:e contributing to solid wastes paradigm changing. The way to find how to improve
actions in recyclable technical rnanage leve~ like storage, are basic to develop recycling
in Brazil are similar, or higher than severa! developed countries, It's fundamental to
supply recycling industries with respect to quantitative and qualitative criteria.
