Is used to show an action that
was going on in the past but
which is already over.
E.g : My mother was cooking
in the kitchen at six oclock.

PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE


Two actions happening at the
same time in the past.
E.g : The children were
playing in the garden while
their mother was hanging
out the clothes.

PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE


FORM :
Was/ Were + Verb + ing

PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE


Was is used for singular am
and is.
Were is used for plural are.
E.g : he was playing
badminton.
They were playing badminton.

EXAMPLES :
Jenny was ironing the clothes.

Ali and Abu were walking in


the park.
